Report for April 14th, 2024

Snake River

Winter flows continue from Jackson Lake Dam.  Good fishing is being had from Wilson Bridge down to Sheep Gulch.  Surface action with midge and neomura patterns is best from around 11:30 am until 4pm when targeting riffles, submerged structure, and ledge rock pools.  Nymph rigs are producing in the same water as well as eddies and eddy current margins.

Streamers are working well when targeting ledge rock pools, eddy current margins, and riffles running parallel to main currents.  Bright mid-sized patterns work well in the morning, while darker patterns are working better in the afternoon.  Floating lines and sinking tips in the INT to 3ips range is the way to go along with variable retrieves.

South Fork

Flows from Palisades Reservoir are at approximately 10,250cfs.  Water temps are cool but still very much worth fishing the South Fork currently.  The lower reaches are fishing best, primarily from Wolf Eddy down to Menan.  Double/triple nymphs are working well in riffles, on seams, and in eddies.  There is respectable surface action in riffles, eddies and slow current side channels with midge patterns from around 1pm to 4pm.

Streamers continue to perform better with each passing week.  Continue to go with bright, mid-sized patterns fished on floating lines or sinking tips in the INT to 3ips range and slow retrieves with hesitations thrown in every now and then.

Henry’s Fork

Good water quality just about everywhere on the Henry’s Fork.  The most consistent fishing is occurring on the lower reaches from Warm River down to Chester.  Midges is the name of the game, although soft hackle jig nymphs are producing well in the morning hours until about 1pm.  Targeting riffles and slow currents around structure is your best approach.

Streamers are producing in decent fashion.  The key is to go with floating lines or short sinking tips and slow retrieves.  Submerged structure, seams, and the tail out of riffles are prime holding water types for streamers at the moment.
