April is Here!!!
We are going into April and one of the best "under-the-radar" months on the Snake and the South Fork. We are seeing lots of chironmids, capnias, and blue-winged olives with trout feeding on the surface during a solid three to four hour period each day. In a couple of weeks, we should start to see our skwalas appear in ever-increasing numbers. That means big-bug time!
The streamer action has been good enough that nymphing is rarely required unless you are REALLY into nymphing, which is fine with me. Get out on the water in the next few weeks if you can. Its gonna be good out there. But keep track of the runoff. It is not an early May thing anymore. Last week of April is more like it. Maybe this year it will start later like it did in 2012 and 2013. But don't count on it.
