Snake River
Decent fishing is being had in ledge rock pools and eddies with double/triple nymph rigs, and this is almost exclusively. Riffle pools and seams are offering very limited action at the moment. Despite warmer than usual water temps, fish in eddies and ledgerock pools have been holding deep, so think about going anywhere from seven to over ten feet from your trailing fly to you line/suspension device. Surface action is occurring in the afternoon in the same water as well as in troughs. Streamer action is there in bits-and-pieces in side channel and along seams current margins. Go with small patterns on floating lines and slow retrieves. Oddly enough, there has been more consistency on cooler days than warmer ones.
South Fork
As on the Snake, the best action is occurring in eddies, with seams and riffles pools (the latter particularly in the afternoon) being a smidge behind in terms of production. Nymphs are the name of the game until around 1pm when adult midges come on with strength and surface activity picks up. The post-1pm time period is also when there is decent production along banks and submerged structure with slow to moderate currents, both on the surface and with nymphs. If using nymphs, it is worthwhile to consider fishing them shallow after 1pm, when surface action picks up. Three to four and a half feet has been doing the trick. As on the Snake, cooler days have been more productive than warmer ones.
