Full on Winter Fishing Mode

Snake River

Surface action has been hit or miss, but when it is occurring the time period has been from around 1pm to 4pm with ledge rock pools and backwater pools and eddies fishing best. Midge emergers are producing better than adult counterparts, although both are worth fishing. Nymph rigs are producing in the same water as well as in riffle pools, riffle current margins, and seams. Roe patterns continue to work in riffles as the whitefish spawn enters its final phase.

Dry flies – Micro Mary Kays, Micro Bruces, Parachute Midges, Etha-Wing Tricos, CDC Midge Emergers, CDC Trans-Midge, and Pheasant Tail Emergers.

Nymphs – Duracells, Hustler Lights, Rainbow Warrior, Zebra Midges, Rojo Midges, Booty’s Day-2 Midge Pupa, Perdigons, Brassies, Clown Eggs, Veiled Eggs, and Otter’s Soft Milking Egg.

South Fork

Limited dry action over the past week and a half and when it does happen it is squeezed in a two- hour time slot from around 2pm until 4pm and primarily on the lower reaches from Kelly’s Island to Lorenzo. Chironomid imitations are the only game in town on the surface. Nymph rigs are producing throughout the day and working best from around 10am to 4pm. The most consistency is occurring on the lower reaches from Byington to Lorenzo and on the upper reaches from the Dam down to Conant. Riffle pools, seams, eddies, and banks with slow currents are producing better than other waters. Keep in mind that whitefish are still spawning and egg patterns are producing in this water as much as anything else.

Dry flies – Parachute Adams, Parachute Midges, CDC Tricos, Loop-Wing Tricos, CDC Midge Emergers, Chez’s Krystal Wing Midge Emerger, and Pheasant Tail Emergers.

Nymphs – Duracells, Keller’s Peach Fuzz, Zebra Midges, Ice Cream Cone Midges, Disco Midge, Root Beer Midges, Jujubee Midges, Perdigons, Crossed-Eyed Eggs, Veiled Eggs, and Nuclear Eggs.
